HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-04/27/1954 142 MEETING OF APRIL 27, 1954. The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman E . Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, April 27, 1954. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the follow- ing present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Albertson, Clark and Demarest; Superintendent of Highways Price; Town .Attorney, Terry and Town Clerk Booth. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson: RESOLVED: That the minutes of the two previous meetings be and hereby are duly appr6ted as .read. � Vote of Town Board:Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Albertson, Clark and Demarest. Moved by Justice Clark; . seconded by Justice Demarest: RESOLVED: That the regular monthly audit meeting of this Board will be held at the office of Supervisor Norman E . Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, May 11, 19541 at 1:30 P.M. Vote of Town Board:.Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Albertson, Clark and Demarest. • C Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That the following persons be and hereby are appointed Fire Department Inspectors in their respective Fire Departments , to serve in such capacity until January 1, 1955, in accordance with Article 8, Section 303 , Subdivision 4, of the Multiple Resident Law. Philip Weiler -------------Orient Fire District Chester L. Ketcham- -------East Marion Fire District Robert Doucet--------Greenport E-W Fire Protection District George H. Stelzer----------Southold Fire District . Stanley H. Ambroski--,------Cutchogue Fire District Norman H. Boughton---------Mattituck Fire district and be it further RESOLVED: That all of these appointments be and hereby are made retroactive to January 1, 1954, and be it further RESOLVED: That the above mentioned persons serve in such capacity without compensation. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Albertson, Clark and Demarest . Moved by Justice Albe-•tson; seconded by Justice Clark: WHEREAS , the commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District have by resolution determined that for the pur- poses of operation of said District it is necessary that certain real property situated at New London, Connecticut, be purchased from the Fishers Island Navigation Company for the sum of Twelve Thousand Dollars ($12,000) and certain' add- itional real property from New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad adjacent thereto for the sum of Six Thousand Dollars ($6,000) . WHEREAS , the Town Board of the Town of "outhold has upon due deliberation and consideration determined that the pur- chase of such real property is in the best interests of said District, NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED: That in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 699 of the Laws of 1947 of the State of New York, as amended, the acquisition of such lands is determined by the Town Board of the Town of Ooutholdto be necessary for the purposes of such ferry, and BE IT "F.URTHER RESOLVED: That the Supervisor of the Town of "outhold be and he hereby is authorized a4nd directed to enter. into contracts for the purchase of said real prop- erty of Fishers Island Navigation Company for the sum of Twelve Thousand Dollars ($12,000) and said real property of New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad for the sum of -Six Thousand Dollars (66,000)and to pay the consideration therefore out of sums of money now held by him and belonging to the Fishers Island Derry -Oistrict. Vote of Town Board:Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Albertson, Clark and Demarest. 144 Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice .Clark: ,RESOLVED: That Otto L. Anrig, Chief of Police , be and he hereby is instructed to place an order for uniforms for the Police Department with H. Levin. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill, Albertson, Cl-rk and Demarest. The Supervisor read a letter he received from William Wickham, Esq. , Written in behalf of William J. Baxter , Chairman of the road committee of the Nassau Point Club Association, Inc . , applying to the Town Board to request the StateTraffic Commission to restrict speed over the Town Highways at Nassau Point. The letter was turned over to the Town Attorney, who will reply to same. The following Resolution offered by Justice Henry A . Clark and seconded by Justice Lester M. .Albertson was duly adopted by1t'­unanimous rising vote. WHEREAS , God in his Providence has taken from our midst the spi`.rit of Charles T. Brooks, WHEREAS , Charles T. Brooks served the Town of `'outhold- as its Supervisor faithfully and efficiently for a term of two years , THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED: That the `'outhold Town Board deep- ly mourns the passing of this associate and friend and extends its profound sympathy to .the. members of his family in their bereavement. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he here- by is directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the members of his family and a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and become a part of the P�ubLieD Re-cor�ds_�7ctf, the Town of Southold.
