The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor
Norman E. Klipp at Greenport , on Tuesday, February 16, 1954.
The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M with the follow-
ing present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill , Albertson,
Clark and Demarest; Superintendent of Highways Price; Town
Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth.
The Board sat at once as a committee on Audit to examine
claims against the Town, concluding the Audit work at 2
o 'clock P.M.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Alb.ertson:
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the two previous meetings ,
January 26, and January 28 be and they hereby are 'duly
approved as read.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill_,
Albertson, Clark and. Demarest.
Moved. by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
RESOLVED: That the regular monthly .Audit meeting of this
Board will be held at the office of Supervisor Norman E.
Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, March 9, 19549 at 1:30 P.M.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill,
Albertson, Clark and Demarest.
The Town Board received a petition bearing the signatures
of residents of Peconic, requesting the Board to have a
traffic light installed at the intersection of Peconic
Lane and Route 27A as they consider it a very dangerous
crossing as the school bus has to enter Peconic at this
intersection several times daily. The Supervisor was instruct-
ed to take the matter up with the County Superintendent
of Highways .
Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark:
RESOLVED: That the Police Report for the month of January
be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file.

Albertson, Clark and Demarest.
Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
RESOLVED: That General Bills in the amount of $5,281 .137
Town Trustees Account in the amount of $72.00; Lighting
District Bills in the amount of $2,649. 59; Fishers Island
Ferry District Bills in the amounts of 411,476.10 be
and the same are hereby ordered paid.

Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
WHEREAS , The Southold Town Board had been presented with a
petition of the Southold Citizens Committee for zoning
signed by Edwin Prellwitz , Archie Symonds , Claus Robohm,
Daniel Smith and C . Jesse Wright, s'equesting that the Town
Board appoint a non-political Planning and Zoning Commission-
er and appropriate sufficient funds in the current budget
to meet the minimum necessary expenses of the Commission
so that such Commission may study and prepare suitable maps ,
and
Zn1H-:�'REAS , such petition contained 83 signatures of residents
of the Town of Southold, now therefore , be it
RESOLVED: That the Super-Visor be and he hereby is instructed
to devise ways and means of obtaining a more comprehensive
expression of the residents of the Town of outhold as to
whether it is their desire that the Township be zoned.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthill ,
Albertson, Clark and Demarest.
The Supervisor reported that Mrs , Eloise Bowden had been
absent from her work without permission since February 1,
and that prior .to leaving she had requested a one month' s
vacation which was specifically denied. Considerable dis-
cussion was had on the insubordinate conduct of Mrs. Bowden
and the vile and abusive language directed against the
Supervisor. On the motion of Justice Clark seconded by
Justice Tuthill, it was resolved that the supervisor be
instructed to pay Mrs . Bowden' s salary for the first two
weeks of February and, that the matter of her unauthorized
absence and insubordinate conduct should be held over for
further consideration.
