MEETING OF DECEMBER 89 1953 .
The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor
Norman E. Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, December 8,
1953. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with
the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark; Town Superintendent of
Highways Price;. Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth.
The Board sat at once as a committee on Audit to examine
claims against the Town, concluding the Audit work at ,
2 o 'clock P.M.
Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Terry: '
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the previous meeting be
and hereby are duly approved as read.
Vote of Town Board: .Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark.
Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Albertson:
RESOLVED: That the annual Audit meeting of this Board be
held at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at
Greenport, on Wednesday, December 30, 1953 , at TKO P.M.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark.
Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark:
RESOLVED: That effective as of December 1, 1953, compen-
sation for clerks for the Receiver of Taxes be set at
Nine Dollars ($9.00) per day, payable in regular month-
ly payments.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark.-
Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Clark:
WHEREAS, the Town 6uperintendent of Highways did on the
8th day of December, , 1953, duly recommend the purchase
of 500 feet of snow fence.
NOW, THERrFORE BE .IT RESOLVED: That Superintendent of
Highways is hereby authorized to purchase from the
Municipal Machinery Corporation of Coram, N.Y. , 500 feet
of snow fence at a cost of $975.00, to be delivered at
Peconic, N.Y.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark.
Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark:
RESOLVED: That Joseph H. Sawicki be and he hereby is
appointed permanently as Southold Town Police Patrolman
(Constable) and be it further
RESOLVED: That Joseph H. Sawicki be com ensated for such
service at the rate of Eleven Dollars (911.00) per day,
payable in regular bi-weekly payments, and be it further
RESOLVED: That this appointment take effect as of December
129 1953.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill Albertson and Clark.
The following bonds were presented to the Board for approval.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson:
RESOLVED: That Bond No. SM177495 issued by the American
Motorists Insurance Company in the sum of 8500.00, on
behalf of Joseph H. Sawicki, be and the same is hereby
approved as to its form, sum, manner of execution and
sufficiency of surety therein.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and. Clark.

RESOLVED: That Bond No. 05-531-229 issued by the American
Surety Company on behalf of Ralph P. Booth, in the sum of
$1000.00 be and the same is hereby approved as to its form,
sum, manner of execution and sufficiency of surety therein.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark.

RESOLVED: That the Police Report for the month of November
be accepted by the Board and placed on file.

RESOLVED: That General Bills in the amount of $5,673.99,
Town Trustees Account in the amount of $42.20, Lighting
District Bills in the amount of $17405.861 Fishers Island
Ferry District Bills in the amount of $7,406. 55, be and the
same are hereby ordered paid.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark.
At 2 o 'clock P.M. in- accordance with a notice published
according to Law, bids werE opened for proposals to furni5li
the Town of Southold one Crawler tractor and Bulldozer accord-
ing to specifications.
There being only one bid submitted which was by the Long
Island Produce and Fertilizer Uompany for a total cost of
$6.221.75, trade-in allowance on a Terratrac Tractor
$1721.75, net delivery prce $4500.00.
The following resolution offered by Justice Albertson;
seconded by Justice Terry:
RESOLVED: That Norman E. Klipp, Supervisor, be and he
hereby is authorized to purchase from the Long Island
Produce and Fertilizer Company, 0outhold, N.Y. -one 4 cyl.
Gasoline Crawler Tractor and Bull '-�ozer at a total price of
$6221.75, Trade-in allowance on a used Terratrac Tractor
$1221.75, net delivery price $4500.00, providing that it is
in his opinion satisfactory for the purpose it is to be used.
Said tractor to be delivered at the 'outhold Town Dump at
Cutchogue,' N.Y.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry,
Tuthill, Albertson and Clark.
Alsonat the above given time, bids were opened to furnish
the ToQn Highway Department one two-ton truck chassis only,
according to specifications. The following bids were

The lowest bid was submitted by the Long Island Produce and
Fertilizer Company.
The following resolution was offered by Justice Albertson;
seconded by Justice Terry:

WHEREAS , the Town Superintendent of Highways did on the 8th
day of December, 1953 , duly recommend the purchase of
certain equipment pursuant to the provisions of .Section 142
of the Highway Law, and a notice of such recommendation
has been duly published as provided in such section.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that pursuant to Section 142
and 103 of the General Municipal Law of the Highway Law
the Town Superintendent of Highways is hereby authorized to
purchase from Long -Islande�Produce & Fertilizer Company
with the approval of the Uounty Superintendent of Highways:
One R-162 International Dump Truck 2 Ton Chassis
for a total of Two Thousand six hundred fifteen & 00/100
Dollars ($2,61 5.00) , delivered at Peconic, L. I. , N.Y.
and to be delivered on or about December 30, 1953 .
The Town Superintendent of Highways is hereby authorized,
subject to the approval of the County Superintendent of
Highways , to surrender to the above-named vendor
One 1947 KB8 International Dump Truck
as part payment for the above equipment to be purchased.
The terms of payment will be as follows:
Trade-in allowance--------------------$ 915.00
Check Drawn on Machinery Fund-- ------ 1,700.00
A contract of purchase for the item purchased shall be duly
executed between the Town Superintendent of Highways and
such vendor and when duly approved by the County Superin-
tendent of Highways , it shall become effective. When such
contract has been duly executed and approved, the Supervisor
is authorized to complete such purchase upon delivery of
the item purchased in accordance with the terms of such res-
olution and such contract, and. to pay the above amount
specified to be paid by check
(1) by a check drawn on the Machinery Fund
