Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, June 9, 1953 • The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clarks Town Superintendent of Highways Price; Town .Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The Board sat at once as a committee on Audit to examine claims against the Town concluding the Audit work at 2:15 P.M. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson: RESOLVED: That the minutes of the previous meeting be and hereby are duly approved as read. Vote of Town Board: Ayes- Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson: RESOLVED: That the following persons be and hereby are appointed Fire Department Inspectors in their respective Fire Departments , to serve in such capacity until January_i.l, 1954, in accordance with .Article 8, Section 303 , Subdivision 4, of the Multiple Resident Law. Philip Weiler , Orient Fire ')istrict Chester L. Ketcham, East '`Marion Fire Department Robert Doucett, Greenport E-W Fire Protection District George H. Stelzer , Southold Fire District Stanley H. .Ambroski, Cutchogue Fire District Norman H. Boughton, Mattituck Fire District and be it further RESOLVED: That all of these appointments be and hereby are made - retro active to January 1, 1953 , and be it further RESOLVED: that the above mentioned persons serve in such capacity without compensation. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of this Board be held at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, June 30, 1953 ,_ at 1:30 P.M. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Terry: RESOLVED: That a public hearing on a proposed ordinance for the regulation of Tourist Camps , House Trailers Camps , House Trailers , or similar establishments , be held at the office of the Supervisor at Greenport , on Tuesday, June 30, 1953 , at 2:30 P.M. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, .Albertson and Clark. Moved by Supt. of Highwgy Price; seconded by Justice Albertson:: , RESOLVED: That inasmuch as the required dedication has been duly received, map of same duly filed, and the necessary papers signed, the Town Board take over and maintain as public highways , 14ESTERN DRIVE , WOODCLIFF DRIVE , BROWER-BROAD,' I lly- FLOWER ROAD, and THE ANCHORAGE, situated at Mattituck, Town of Southold, county of Suffolk, New York. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark, and Supt. of Highways Price. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded byIJustice Terry: RESOLVED: That General Bills in the sum of $3 ,158.96, Lighting Bills in the sum of $1, 536. 5+, Town Trustee Account in the sum of $30.00, Fishers Island Ferry District Bills in the sum of $9,475.90 beand the same are hereby ordered paid. Anrig, Chief of Police, be and hereby is authorized to attend the New York State Chief of Police Convention to be held at Syracuse, New York, dur- ing the week of July 20th, 1953. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Tuthill: WHEREAS , Chapter 368 of the Laws of 1953 provide for resident commissioners of the Fishers island Garbage and Refuse District, and WHEIREAS , such Commissioners have been appointed and have filed their constitutmonal oaths of office and their public official bonds, NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED: That Supervisor Norman E. Klipp be and he hereby is directed to pay over to Elizabeth McCloskey, Treasurer of the Fishers Island Garbage and Refuse District , the unexpended balance of District funds in the amount of $20,329.97. Vote of Town Board: Ayes- Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill , .Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark:. RESOLVED: That Norman E. Klipp , Supervisor , be and hereby is authorized to enter into an exeention of lease contract No . DA30-075-Eng-1 538, Supplemental Agreement No. 2 between the Secretary of the .Army and the Town of 6outhold, Suffolk County, New York, for the use of the Airfield and Hangar Building No. 254, and Buildings Nos. I-365 and 127, located at Fort H.G. Wright, Fishers Island, New York, at a rental rate of Twelve Dollars ($12.00) per annum, payable annually in advance from January 1, 1953 .to December 31, 1953 . Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. The Bonds of James B. Pickett , Raymond Doyer and Elizabeth McCloskey were presented to the Board for approval. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That Bond No. 2560627 issued by the Fidelity and Casualty Company of New York, in the sum of $1000.00 on behalf of James B. Pickett , be and the smme hereby approv- ed as to itd form, sum, manner of execution and sufficiency of surety therein. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Terry: RESOLVED: That Bond No. 256o628, issued by the Fidelity and Casualty Company of New York, in the sum of $1000.00 on behalf of Raymond Doyen, be and the same is hereby approv- ed as to its form, sum, manner of execution and sufficiency of surety therein. Vote of Town Board: Antes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, ` Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice %th ll: RESOLVED: That Bond No. 2560629, issued by the Fidelity and Casualty Company of New York, in the sum of $20,000i00 on behalf of Elizabeth McCloskey, be and the same is hereby approved as to itd form, sum, manner of execution and sufficiency of surety therein. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. 61 Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark:- RESOLVED: That mull H. Hines be and hereby is appointed Life Guard of the Southold Town Bathing Beach, to act in such capacity seven days a week from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and be it further RESOLVED: That raull H. Hines be compensated for such service at the rate of $1.20 per hour, and be it further RESOLVED: That this appointment take effect as of June 12, 1953 and be it further RESOEVED: That Paull H.' Hines serves in such capacity at the pleasure of the Southold Town Board, and be it further RESOLVED: That compensation for such service be made in regular monthly payments. The following resolution was received by the Town Board: WHEREAS , the Wpman' s Society of the Methodist Church of Greenport, Suffolk County, Long Island, have this day, June 1, 1953 , on the occasion of a Mother and Daughter Luncheon and their final monthly business meeting of the season received from Mrs. Anne i"ontgomery of this village a communication in which among other things she deplores the apathy of professed Christians toward "houses of ill repute" which she and the public press say flourish here; and, WHEREAS, we believe that our community should become the best of 'communities in Drder that our children, which we consider the most important of crops , should be reared ih a wholesome atmosphere, do urge that every possible effort be exerted by the village board, by the town board and by the District Attorney' s office to eliminate any known illegal or sinful conditions existing in our beloved town; and WHEREAS , we the members of this Society feel that democracy is a grass roots business , which is sound only as local government is sound; and WHEREAS , we also believe that silence and inaction on the part of accurately, informed well-meaning citizens is death to democracy, be it RESOLVED: that we, the members of this Woman's Society of Christian Service shall support and encourage those public officials who demonstrate by their attitudes and actions a sincere and honest desire for good government and those, who by their decisions and policies see to it that justice is meted out to all citizens , irrespective of class , color or creed, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be sent to Mrs. Anne Montgomery; to the Village Board; to the Town Board; to the District Attorney s Office; to the Suffolk County Republican Committee; and to hts Honor, the Governor of the State of New York. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That the Town Board instruct the Supervisor to communicate with the Woman's Society of the Methodist Church of Greenport, Long Island, and request that a committee of this Society be appointed to attend the next meeting of the Town Board which will be held on June 30th, 1953, to discuss the matters stated in the above resolution.
