HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-04/07/1953 MEETING OF APRIL 7, 1953 The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Norman, E. Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, April 7, 1953 . The meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M. with the ,following present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill , Albertson and Clark; Town Attorney Terry and Town Clerk Booth. The Board sat at once as a committee on Audit to examine claims against the Town, concluding the Audit work at 2 P.M. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson:: RESOLVED:. That the minutes of the previous meeting be and hereby are duly approved as read. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of this Board be held at the office of Supervisor Norman E. Klipp at Greenport, on Tuesday, ,April 21, 1953 at 1:30 P.M. Vote of the 'Town hoard: .Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice -Albertson; seconded by Justice Terry: RESOLVED: That Rensselaer G. Terry, Jr. , Town .Attorney; Edwin S . Conklin, Building Inspector for the Town of Southold and the Justices of the Peace are hereby authorized to attend a Public Conference of the State Building Code Comm- ission to be held at the Garden City Hotel, Garden City, New York, on May 11, 1953 , and be it further RESOLVED: That the above persons be reimbursed for their necessary and actual expenses incurred while attending the meeting. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill , .Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Justice Albertson: RESOLVED: That inasmuch as the required dedication has been duly received, Map of same duly filed and the necessary papers signed, the Town Board take over and maintain as a public highway "Bayview Avenue" , situated at Arshamomoque in',the Town of Southold, Suffolk ounty, New York. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That Norman E. Klipp, Supervisor, be and he hereby is authorized to enter into a temporary agreement with the Village of Greenport, New York, for the use by the Village of Greenport of the radio facilities of the Southold Town Police Department; terms of the agreement subject to the approval of the Southold Town lioard. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. A 'communication was received from Thomas J. Clougher of Cutchogue, relative to a contribution towards the cost of dredging the channel at the mouth of Wickhams Creek, at Cutchogue. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That the Town Board be authorized to contribute the sum of Four Hundred and Seventy-five Dollars($$475.00) towards the cost of dredging the channel at the mouth of Wickhams Creek, Cutchogue. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. A communication was received from Barney P. Harris , Town Constable , requesting a leave of absence for one year without pay from his duties at the Police Department. He later re- signed orally from the Police Force at a meeting of the Police Committee held at the office of the Supervisor on March 23 ,. 1953 . Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the leave of absence requested by Barney P. Harris , Town Constable, for one year without pay be denied. The Board felt that if -he above request was granted, it would ` establish a precedent and would not be in the best interest of the Town of Southold. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; _Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Albertson; seconded by Justice Clark: RESOLVED: That the resignation of Barney P. Harris , Constable of the Town of Southold. , be accepted with regret, effective a�s of April 9, 1953. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson: WHEREAS , there is a vacancy in the Southold Police Depart- ment caused by the resignation of Barney P. Harris , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That Joseph Sawiski be appointed temporary Police / Patrolman (Constable) of the Town of Southold, effective as of April 6, 1953, and be it further RESOLVED: That Joseph Sawiski be compensated for such service in the amount of Ten Dollars and Fifty Cents ($10. 50) per day, payable in regular bi-weekly installments. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Justice Albertson: RESOLVED: That the Police Report Bor the month of March be accepted by the Town Board and placed on file. Vote of Town Board; .Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Terry; seconded by Justice Tuthill: RESOLVED: That General Bills in the sum of $4,833. 89, Lighting Bills in the sum of $1,378. 86 Fishers Island . Ferry District Bills in the sum of 46 ,M. 57 be and the same are hereby ordered paid. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Klipp; Justices Terry, Tuthill, Albertson and Clark. Moved by Justice Clark: seconded by Justice Albertson: WHEREAS , The Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District have entered into a contract for bid for carrying of U. S . Mail from New London, Conn. to Fishers Island, New York, and WHEREAS , the said Commissioners have requested approval of their acts by the Town Board, NOW, THEREFORE, ,BE IT RESOLVED: That the Acts of the Comm- issioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District in entering into a contract for bid for carrying U.S. Mail fro m July 1, 1953 to June 30, 1957, be approved and that the Supervisor and the Justice of the Peace of Fishers Island be and they are authorized to issue the proper certificate indicating such approval.
