MEETING OF AUGUST 29, 1961.
The Southold Town Board met at the office of;;the Supervisor-, .Lester M.
Albertson, at Greenport, N.Y. on Tuesday, -August 29, 1961, at 3: 00 P.M.
with the- following present: Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and
Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Clark; Supt. of Highways Price and. Town
Clerk Richmond.
Moved by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Councilman. Demarest;
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of August 8, 1961 be and they
hereby are duly approved.
Vote of Town Board: ' Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Gtath-
wohl; Justices Tuthill and 'Clark,-Ayes.

RESOLVED: That the minutes of the Fishers island meeting of August- 15,
1961 be and they hereby are duly approved.

RESOLVED: That the regular monthly meeting of the Town Board will .be' held
at the Supervisor' s Office, 16 South Street, Greenport, N.Y, on Tuesday',
September 12, 1961, at 3: 00 P.M.

RESOLVED: That Frank Dawson of New Suffolk, N.Y. be and he hereby -is
appointed, subject to the written' approval 'of the District Superint"endent
of Schools, Attendance Officer of all schools throu#hout the Town, except '
such schools as are otherwise provided for by Section 3213 of the. Education
Law, and be it further
RESOLVED: That such Attendance Officer shall be removable at the pleasure -
of the District Superintendent of Schools, and be it further
RESOLVED: That the compensation for such Attendance Officer be fixed at
$1200.00 per year payable in regular monthly installments, he to pay his
own expenses, and• be it further
RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is inttructed to notify
Frank S. Dawson and the District Superintendent of Schools. of this appoint

RESOLVED: That Supervisor Albertson and Town Attorney Tasker look into an
Ordinance providing for the demolition of abandoned build_ings. which are
fire hazards.

Moved by Councilman Demarest; seconded by Councilman Grathwohl;
RESOLVED: That the request from Phillip Betz and others for a speed limit
in Town Creek, Jockey Creek and Peconic Inlet be turned over' to the Comm-
ittee on Inland Waterways for their investigation and report.

RESOLVED: That Supervisor Albertson be and he hereby is authorized
to ''arrange for the painting of, the Southold Police Headquarters in
Peconic, N.Y.

WHEREAS, Greenport Public School has requested the repainting of'' the
stop lines at 9th Street-, at the intersection of New�York State Route
25, 'Greenport, N.Y.
NOW MHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Supervisor,' be_. and he, hereby
is,�authorized to communicate with the State Traffic Commission and' re-
quest the repainting of the stop lines at 9th Street at the inter-
section of New York Btate Route 25, Greenport, N.Y.

RESOLVED: That the Auxiliary Police Report for the month of July be
accepted by the Town Board and placed on file.

WHEREAS, Beatrice Hodgins requests a 35 MPH limit on Route 27A in
Southold, N.Y. between Bowery Lane, east to the beginning of the
cement Road,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby is
authorized to communicate with the State Traffic Commission and request
it to establish maximum speed limits of 35 MPH .on Route 27A, Southold,
N.Y. from Bowery Lane to the beginning of the cement road, and be it
further resolved that the Supervisor further communicate with the Comm-
issioner of 'Public Works and request him to make ' a similar request to
the New York State Traffic Commission.

WHEREAS, the Southold Fire Department requests a red stop- light install-
ed in front of the Southold Fire House, Southold, N.Y.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: �'That the Supervisor be and he. hereby is
authorized to communicate with the State Traffic Commission and request
it to place a red stop light in front of the bouthold Fire House, and
that the Supervisor further communicate with the Commissioner of Public.
Works and request him to make a similar reQuest, -to the New York State.
Traffic Commission.

RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he herebir is directed. to request
the. Long -Island -Lighting Company to remove one- 100 cp street light On
pole # and install one mercury vapor street light on the corner of
Skippers 'Lane and Oyster Pond Lane, Orient, N.Y.

WHEREAS, a petition was received from Edward Donahue, Raymond W. Donahue,
Reginald S. Donahue, Clement B. Donahue and Edward Meyer,. Southold, N.Y..
requesting a change of zone of certain property situated at Southold, N.Y.
and more' fully'described in said petition from "A" .Residential and Agric-
ultural District to "B" Business District,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk- of the .Town of South-
old be and he is hereb directed to transmit this petition to the, Plan-
ning Board in accordance with Section 901, Subdivision C of Article IX
of the Building Zone Ordinance of the Town of Southold.

rict fi; N , ER OK, IT RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk of the Town
of Southold be and he hereby is directed to transmit this- petition to
the Planning Board in accordance with Section 901, Subdivision C of
Article IX of the Building Zone :Ordinance of the Town of Southold.

RESOLVED: That Howard M. Terry, Building Inspector, be and hereby is,.
authorized -to attend the N.Y.S. -Municipal Building Officers Conference,
Latham, N.Y. September 28th and 29th, 1961, and be it further
RESOLVED: That the necessary expenses incurred while attending said meet-
ing be a legal charge against the Town.

RESOLVED: That Otto Anrig, Police Chief (Constable) of the Town of.
Southold,. be arA he hereby is authorized to attend National Police Con-
ference, New York, Sept. 15, 16 and 17, 1961 and be it further
RESOLVED: That the- necessary expenses. incnrred while attending said,
conference be a legal charge against . the '.Town.

The Supervisor and Beach Committee (Justice Clark and Councilman Grathwohl)
were instructed by the Board to investigate the purchase of Beach proper-
ty throughout the .Town.
A letter was read. from. Paul Mamola concerning traffic and clamming in, the
Town of ,Southold. The letter was turned over to Chief of Police for proper
action.
The Supervisor was directed to contact the L.I.R.R. advising them of
Bridge conditions over Mill Creek.
The Supervisor was directed to investigate the possibility of establishing
a roadside park adjacent to Route 25 between Southold and Greenport.

WHEREAS, Councilman Demarest has had requests for some financial assist-.
ance in dredging the entrance of Dam Pond, East Marion, now therefore, be it .
RESOLVED: That Lester M. Albertson, Supervisor, be and he hereby is author-
ized on behalf of the Town of Southold to contribute a sum not to exceed
$200.00 tward the cost of dredging the entrance of Dam Pond, East Marion, NY

RESOLVED: That this meeting of the Town .Board be and the same hereby .is
recessed at 3:45 P.M. and will reconvene at the Supervisor' s Office, Green-
port, N.Y. at 7:30 P.M.

The Town Board reconvened at the Supervisor' s Office, Greenport, N.Y.
at 7:30 P.M. The hearing on the application of Woodhollow Properties, Inc.
Orient, N.Y. was opened by Councilman Demarest at 7: 300 P.M. The minutes
of this hearing were recorded by .Judith Boken. Supervisor Albertson was
absent from this meeting.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman Demarest;
WHEREAS, Woodhollow Properties, Inc. , Orient, N.Y. bar petition verified
the 2nd day of June, 1961; petitioned the Town Board fora change of zone
of certain real property described in said petition from "A" Residential
and Agricultural District to "B" Business District, and
WHEREAS, the said petition was referred to the Planning Board for its
official recommendation and report, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board pursuant to due notice thereof, held a hearing
thereon on August 29, 1961, at which time all interested persons were
given an opportunity to be heard,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Building Zone
Ordinance 'including the Building Zone Maps be amended by changing from
"A" Residential and AGricultural District' to "B" Business District the
following described property:
ALL .that c ertain tract or parcel of land situated at Orient, in the Town
of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, and more particularly bounded and
described as follows:
BEGINNING at a point on the southerly side of the Main Road which point
' marks the northwesterly corner of premises herein described and the north- '
easterly corner of land of the State of New York; thence running along the
southerly side of Main Road, North 870 09' 20" East 151.72 feet to land
of the United States Govermmnet; thence running by last mentioned land,
South 110 43 ' 20" East 752 feet, to the ordinary highwater mark of Gardin=
er ' s Bay; thence running southwesterly along the ordinary highwater mark
of Gardiners' Bay the tie line of which bears South 390 44' '40" West
348.41 feet to land of the State of New York; thence running by last
mentioned land; North 40 40' 45" West 1000 feet to the southerly side of
t the Main Road, at the point or place of beginning.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is authorized
and directed to cause notice of said amendment to be posted ;A nd .published
pursuant to law, and be it further
RESOLVED: That' the Town Clerk be and he hereby is authorized and' directed
to cause a certified copy of this resolution together with such other.
information an may be required to the Suffolk County Planning- Commission
for- ' its approval pursuant to the provisions of Section 1304 of the Suffolk
County Charter.
