SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD
SPECIAL MEETING
FEBRUARY 21, 1985
A Special Meeting of -the Southold Town Board was held on Thursday,
February 21, .1985 at the Southold Town Hall, Main'Road, Southold, New York.
Supervisor Murphy opened the meeting at 10:00 A.M. with the following present:
Supervisor Francis 1J. Murphy
Councilman Paul Stoutenburgh
Councilman James A. Schondebare
Councilwoman Jean W. Cochran
Town Clerk Judith T. Terry
Town Attorney Robert W. Tasker
Absent: Councilman Joseph L. Townsend, Jr.
Justice Raymond W. Edwards
Supervisor Murphy explained that the :purpose of this Special' Meeting. is '
to appoint Police Officers. from the :Suffolk :County Department of Civil Service
Certification of Eligibles List.' The classes -for the new appointees begins on
Tuesday at the Suffolk 'County Police Academy. . There. may not be another
Academy session until fall. He further explained that there is 'a need for two
or three Police O.fficers before the end of the year as it is 'expected there will'
be at least two retirements this year and probably a total of three before the
end of :1986. Councilman Stoutenburgh expressed his 'concern for increasing the
overall number of police force members and Chief Winters explained that this is '
not the case, -these officers would merely replace.anticipated retirees as explained
by the Supervisor.
On motion of Councilman Schondebare, seconded by Councilman Stoutenburgh, it was
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town'of Southold hereby appoints the follow-
ing individuals to the position of Police Officer for the Town of Southold, from the
Suffolk County Department of Civil Service Certification of Eligibles List, effective
February 26, •1985., at a salary of $7,,500-.00 per annum: Joseph A. Conway, Jr. ,
Francis J. Rogers, Michael F. Fingerle.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Councilwoman Cochran, Councilman Schondebare,
Councilman Stoutenburgh, Supervisor Murphy.
This 'resolution was declared duly ADOPTED.
On motion.of Councilman Stoutenburgh, seconded by Councilman Schondebare, it was
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold hereby authorize's the follow-
ing Polices Officers to attend the Suffolk County Police Academy beginning on February
26, 1985: Police Officer Joseph A. Conway, Jr., Police Officer Francis 'J. Rogers,
Police Officer Michael F. Fingerle.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: . Councilwoman Cochran, Councilman Schondebare,
Councilman Stoutenburgh, Supervisor Murphy .
This !resolution was declared duly ADOPTED.
On motion of Supervisor Murphy, .seconded by Councilwoman Cochran, it 'was
RESOLVED that this Special' Town Board meeting be and hereby is 'adjournA at
•10:25 P.M,.
Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: . Councilwoman .Cochran, Councilman Schondebare,
Councilman Stoutenburgh, Supervisor Murphy.
